The Real Madrid star is the first athlete to reach 200 million followers across Facebook, Twitter and Instagram, and averages 135,000 new fans across social media every single day
Ronaldo has 109.7m followers on Facebook, 49.6m on Instagram and 40.7m on Twitter after a “meteoritic rise” in popularity, according to social media tracking database Hookit,
The Real Madrid star now boasts more followers than prominent past and present NBA stars Michael Jordan, Kobe Bryant, LeBron James, Kevin Durant and Steph Curry’s combined 187m.
Ronaldo may have lost out to Lionel Messi to the Ballon d’Or in January but the Portuguese easily trumps his long-time rival’s 120.8m followers on social media, though the Argentine does not have a Twitter account.
Hookit also detail that Ronaldo saw nearly one billion interactions on social media last year and added 41.8m new followers, the majority of whom came from Instagram.
If you want to feel even worse about your own paltry social media following, the tracking database states Ronaldo averages 135,000 new followers a day.
